Plate heat exchanger common anomaly and how to handle the problem

 

Plate heat exchanger is a kind of high efficiency of heat exchange equipment, it has the incomparable advantages to other heat exchange equipment, its heat transfer coefficient is high, less heat loss, cover a small area, compact and lightweight, convenient cleaning and maintenance, wide application range, long service life, etc. But also has its own drawbacks as a plate heat exchanger, such as pressure cannot be more than 2.5 Mpa, the temperature cannot exceed 250 degrees Celsius, it can’t heat transfer for large particles and long fiber, cannot use for extremely corrosive condition, easy to block, etc.

Below are analysis for three kinds of common anomalies of plate heat exchanger, leakage, pressure drop anomaly and heat transfer anomaly.

 

I. Leakage

1 Halt leakage, the main reason is that heat exchanger frequent start-stop, it could be turn ok when restore normal work condition,

2 Internal leakage, the main reason is the gaskets damaged, and the plates corrosion perforation,

3 External Leakage, the main reason is that sealing washer dislocation, extrusion, damage, plate corrosion, deformation, not pressure to prescribed clamping size;

4 Leakage between the blind plate and clamping plate, the main reason is that blind flange breakdown by hard objects.

 

II. Pressure drop anomaly

Pressure drop is larger than the design value

1 Actual flow rate is larger than the design value,

2 Block between plates,

3 Block of plate entry roads.

 

III. Heat transfer anomaly

1 outlet temperature of the hot side is higher than the design value, the main reason is that there is something wrong with the selection, hot side flow is greater than the design value, board of blockage or cold side and small flow;

2 cold side outlet temperature is too low, the main reason is that hot side small flow rate or temperature is lower than the design value, board of blockage etc.
